WEEK 9

Image
Two months into my mission and halfway through my first transfer. Here are some highlights — - THE FOOD The food this week was really good. As usual, we had tacos and soup for every lunch, but they are so good. Most soup tastes the same. If anyone has had one of my childhood favorites, star soup — it's just that, but better. Also, one day when we were at lunch, an hermana asked us if we wanted some tuna (which I didn't want at all because I'm pretty sure tuna is the spawn of Satan). But then she brought out the fruit that is on the top of a cactus, and it's SO good. Easily a top three fruit. I had like seven. She also let us try dragon fruit, lychees, and guayaba. They were all really good. Saturday night was my two month mark and we had 3 phone call lessons scheduled but they all cancelled on us so we decided to go outside. On Saturdays, lots of families will open their garages and barbeque there. If you want some food, you can just walk in and offer to pay for some fo...

WEEK 8

Another great week here in Tizayuca.  Here are some of the best parts — - INVESTIGATORS We have two investigators with baptism dates and almost a third. There's a little girl getting baptized on Friday and another super cool guy on September 17th. The other guy didn't go to church enough so we had to cancel his baptism date. But he showed up yesterday which means he can get a baptism date now — which is really cool. Also, the dad of the little girl getting baptized is super interested in the church. The mom and son are already members and the dad would be cuz he believes in everything. He just wants to start his own church so he won't join ours. But we'll get him to be baptized. We found 10 new people to teach last week and they're all super cool. We also found a family of 6 who might be interested — which would be really cool. - ZONE CONFERENCE We had zone conference on Thursday. The area authority and his wife came down and spoke. President and Sister Wright also ...

WEEK 7

First week in the field! Here are some of my favorites — - MY COMPANION My companion, Elder Berquist, is so cool. He's from Utah so he likes a lot of the same stuff I do. We speak in Spanish during the day, but then at night, when we are in bed, we talk for like an hour or so about stuff back home. It's so cool cuz I feel like I'm at home again. He's also super understanding and helps me learn Spanish — so that's cool. Sometimes it's hard talking Spanish to him cuz I know that he speaks English, but I try my best. - THE PEOPLE The people here are way better than in California. Every person here is so nice. They all like missionaries — so that's cool. Like 2 days ago, we were on our way to a lesson when they cancelled on us so we started knocking doors. And it just started pouring. We didn't have jackets. Luckily, this random family invited us in and gave us food. They tried to get us to drink, which isn't good, but it was nice that they gave us food....

WEEK 6

Not much time today so I'll just get to the highlights — - THE REST OF CCM The rest of the week went by so slow. The days were LONG. We had class everyday and they went at a snail's pace. On Sunday, we had a fast and testimony meeting. I bore my testimony in Spanish; it was like three sentences, but it's more than I knew before. That night we all just hung out and messed around the whole time. It was really fun and was the last English I got to speak. Also, quick update...everyone got better. - LEAVING THE CCM My roommates had to leave at 4 so I woke up at 3:30 and couldn't go back to sleep. We had to be at the building by 6 and then we just waited in line. I finally got on the bus at 7 and then we drove to the airport. There was a bus station there and we had to wait 3 and a half hours for the bus to come. Everyone around me spoke Spanish so I just studied. Once we got on the bus, I slept for 2 hours and then we finally arrived at the bus station in Pachuca. The Wright...

WEEK 5

This is my last full week here at the MTC. Here are some memorable standouts — - SPANISH My Spanish is getting so much better. I actually have really good conversation now and they're pretty much all in Spanish except for a word or two. My grammar has also gotten a lot better, which is super cool cuz just a week ago, I was so awful at all parts of Spanish. I also have a Spanish test this Friday which I'm going to fail miserably. The test is just listening to a Spanish sentence and then repeating it. I can speak in Spanish and I can understand what people are saying, but I can't, for the life of me, repeat what someone is saying in Spanish. The sentences are also insanely long, so it's so hard. - THE FOOD The food has definitely gone downhill from when we first got here. I practically live on cereal — mainly chocolate or frosted flakes and Nutella and bread. Plus yesterday, 400 missionaries arrived, doubling the number here so breakfast this morning was insane. There was...
