WEEK 71
It was a big week here in Mexico. Here are the highlights —
- DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS
This past week was the Day of the Dead!! It was super cool to see how they celebrate it here! It's always on the 1st and 2nd of November. On the 1st, they honor the kids who have passed away, so they go trick-or-treating and party a bunch. I had intercambios during these days so I wasn't in the state of Hidalgo for the celebrations, I was in the state of Mexico. I don't know why, but the state of Mexico has no rules at all; pretty much, you can do whatever you want! During the night of the 1st, I have never seen such a crazy place! There were thousands of people walking everywhere. Just a mass of people. There were tons of people in costumes, but like usual, everyone was just staring at me — the tall white kid not in costume. I saw a bunch of people get their phones out to take pictures or videos, but then someone would walk by and snag their phones and then just get lost in the crowd. This happened every time I saw a phone out. Then a few times, cars tried to pass through. They'd drive like 5 mph and would hit people to try to get them to move! At one point, a car hit a guy and then he and like 10 or 15 of his friends got upset and just flipped the car over! And that happened like 5 or 6 times that night! Then other people would climb on cars and put little fireworks into a pvc pipe they had made into a homemade rocket launcher. They just shot them off into the crowd! It was actually a super genius idea, but I'm pretty sure a few people got really hurt from it!

- BAPTISM
This Sunday was the baptism of Manelyk! It was such a cool experience. We had to fight a lot to get her baptized and Satan was definitely working to stop her from getting baptized. We had a few complications with a member in our ward who didn't want the girl to get baptized because he had huge beef with her family. But by the end, it was a super special experience and all of her family was crying during the baptism. The baptismal font wouldn't drain after the baptism so we had to take the water out bucket by bucket and pour it into the toilets. Took like and hour and a half.

- STAKE CONFERENCE
On Sunday, we also had Stake Conference. We had a member of the seventy and our mission president come. It was a super neat experience, but I also didn't get to hear a ton of it. About 30 minutes in, some guy from Haiti walked in speaking absolutely no Spanish. So they called me over and I ended up helping him out the whole time. He also invited his friend who has 2 little kids to church. They were also from Haiti. By the end, I was translating everything for them; it was a super cool experience. I gotta play with the 2 little kids after and 100%, I'm gonna adopt 2 little black kids when I'm older. But it was a super good conference and the Spirit was super strong.

Hope your week was as good as mine!
