WEEK 43

Image
This week was pretty crazy. Being a district leader is so much more work. I got 14 missionaries to look after and it's pretty tough. Here are the highlights from the week — - THE SISTERS So I was doing my standard call with a companionship of sisters one night... When I asked how their teaching was going, they casually mentioned that they were teaching the wife of a cartel boss. As I asked more questions, it became apparent that they weren't safe. The sisters said that the wife was told by her husband that if she met with missionaries from our church, he would kill the missionaries. To get around this obstacle, the sisters and wife agreed they would just tell him that they were students from a college. They asked me if this was a good idea. Ummm...NO! They started receiving threats and the girls were scared. So at 12:30 am, the zone leaders left to go retrieve the sisters, who were 45 minutes away. We had to stay up the whole time cuz we share a house with the ZL's and were...

WEEK 42

This week was super good. Here are some of the highlights — - TEACHING We found a whole lot of new people to teach cuz we gotta start fresh. Yeah — we had to start over cuz we literally dropped everyone from last transfer. - BAPTISM On Friday, Elder Berquist and I were able to go back to Tizayuca. When we were serving there, Hermano Gonzalo was baptized. We taught his daughter as well, and just recently, she decided to get baptized. She asked if I could baptize her so President let me and Elder Berquist go. It was so cool. The Spirit was so strong and now they can finally go to the temple and be an eternal family. It was great to be back and see everyone. We got to see our old bishop, elders quorum presidency and a few people that we baptized. I'm super excited for Daniela and her family. - TRANSFERS On Sunday, we got a call for transfers. My comp, Elder Buddeke, was transferred to Pachuca City, and I received a new comp. His name is Elder Nava and he is super cool. I was also put ...

WEEK 41

This week was pretty good. Here are some highlights — - TEACHING We didn't find too many people this week but we are helping a lot of our people progress. A lot of our friends are doing well. The problem is they all live at least an hour from our chapel and they don't have the money to travel or a car. That is the hard part right now.  So if you could add them to your prayers, we'd appreciate it.  But other than that, everyone is doing really well. - P-DAY Two good things on p-day. The first one was a hike. We woke up before the sun to meet our zone. It was more like a walk than a hike and it wasn't the most scenic hike, but it was definitely a change from our normal activity. The problem was our zone is horribly out of shape. During the steeper parts, I literally had to boost the sisters up so they could get to the next level. And then, on the way down, they refused to go because of the steepness (it was like a 3 foot drop & they didn't want to hurt themselves)...

WEEK 40

This was a pretty good week. Here are the highlights — INTERCAMBIOS We had intercambios with the district leader. He taught me all the responsibilities of a district leader, which was cool, but we literally didn't leave the house for three days. It was pretty tough but I learned a lot. I really don't think intercambios were necessary; I just think he used it as an excuse to get a break from his comp.  - SERVICE We did a lot of service this week. Some girl in our stake purchased a doctor's office so we painted all of it. Took like five hours, but we finished. Then when I was in intercambios, we got a call that a member who is paraplegic needed help getting into a car. It was pretty much a one-man job so the district leader volunteered me. Seriously, one of the hardest things I've ever done. The lower half of her body doesn't work so she faced me and just had to hug me as I carried her from the house to the car. I know that God gave me strength to do it cuz she was a ...
