WEEK 12

Well transfers happened today, but we were fortunately spared — so Elder Berquist and I will have six more weeks here in Tizayuca. It's gonna be lit. Here are some highlights from the week —

- INDEPENDENCIA DAY
This week was Independence Day for Mexico, but in Mexico, they celebrate most holidays all week so everyday there's been stuff going on. The actual Independence Day was Wednesday or Thursday last week (I can't remember), but we had a normal day until the ward party at night. The streets were so crowded which was really good cuz we got to talk to a lot of people. The ward party was supposed to start at 6 but Mexicans are always late so it didn't start until 8. We have to be in our house by 9:30 so we had to leave early. But while we were there, we got to do all of their patriotic stuff and watch the talent show. Most people did Mexican dances and then a few sang. But every night, people light fireworks off and pretty much no one works and just drinks all day. We talked a lot of people into having lessons with us and now we have a few more investigators.

- STUDIES
My favorite part of everyday is studying...especially the scriptures. I just finished reading the Book of Mormon and I finished it in 6 weeks, but it was in English, not Spanish. I just finished 1 Nephi in Spanish, but it takes me so long to read it. We also have comp study for an hour which is dope cuz my comp knows everything about the scriptures so usually our comp study consists of me asking him a bunch of questions and him answering them.

- TRACTING
This week, tracting was really good. Last Sunday, we got a reference and our bishop said he didn't want us to come to church unless we found this family, but apparently they don't exist. We literally spent 4 hours looking for this family. The only thing we had to go off of was a hand-drawn map that after the four hours, we realized wasn't even right. We asked all of the neighbors and everything and we still couldn't find them. We did find a bunch of new people to teach though and also met a girl who wants to marry one of us for a green card. On Friday, we were walking down a street and a man came running out of his house and asked to talk. His wife had just left him cuz he was broke and he had a five-year-old boy and a three-year-old daughter. My comp ended up teaching him for an hour and the kids and I threw rocks at each other, threw them in a pot that we broke, and had sword fights with a pipe and stick. Good times.

- FREE TIME
We had a good amount of free time this week which was kinda nice. I made a super dope duct tape wallet and now I'm making them for people in my district. I also learned how to do a rubix cube and it's way easier than I thought. I also clean all the time cuz it's super therapeutic for me and makes me feel really good. We also play a lot of card games and they get super intense which brings back memories of basketball with the boys.

Anyways, hope your week was as good as mine!

- Elder Fuller

So there are literally three streets with names in this town (this is why we spent 4 hours looking for a house based off of a hand-drawn map the other day) and two of them have English names.

Some great art you can find around town

Our ward Independencia Day fiesta

Not sure why, but this sister in the ward insists on taking a picture with every set of missionaries assigned to the ward
