WEEK 4

Another great week here in Mexico. Here are the stand outs from it —

- THE TEMPLE
My district was able to go to the Mexico City temple. This was so cool. The ride there was insane cuz I actually got to see the city. It made me want to be out in the field immediately cuz everyone seems so humble and nice. When we got to the temple, we went into the visitor center for an hour. It was huge and displayed the history of the church in Mexico, so that was fun. We went inside the temple and did an endowment session but it was completely in Spanish. I was pretty lost the whole time, but luckily knew a little bit from having gone before. When we got to the celestial room, it was so cool. I just sat in there for 30 minutes and didn't want to leave at all. On the bus ride home, everyone was tired, so we all just looked out the window in silence. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life.

- CLASS
Class is super fun cuz my district doesn't know how to shut up; they just make jokes the whole time and it's usually in English so I can actually find it funny. We don't get much work done in class, except when we do grammar lessons cuz no one knows it. It's the only time I get a lot out of a lesson. Grammar is actually easy for me, but the problem is I can't use grammar if I don't know Spanish. So besides the grammar lessons, I usually learn the most on my own. We've started teaching lessons to our teacher and investigators. It's super frustrating having all of these ideas in my mind but not being able to have the Spanish words to say them. But my Spanish is getting a little better so that's good.

- FREE TIME
We actually have more free time than I thought we would have. We usually use the time to just study Spanish cuz I need all the studying I can get, but sometimes we leave the books and go and play something. We usually play ultimate frisbee, basketball, soccer or spikeball. My district is super competitive and all the guys are good athletes so it's really fun. One of the rules at the MTC is that you can't keep score because that makes things too competitive, so we are always arguing about what the score would be, which takes up like half of the time. It's super nice to be able to play sports again cuz that's one of the things I miss most. But that means we also never go to the gym, so I usually just do 200 pushups a day. My 3 roommates also do them with me, so that's super nice.

- FOOD
The food is way better than I thought it was gonna be. Usually for breakfast we have burritos or chicken fingers and then cereal. I usually get the frosted flakes but when those are gone, I get chocolate frosted flakes with marshmallows or chocolate rice krispies. Lunch is always some sort of meat like steak or a chicken wing but they aren't good cuts of meat. It definitely makes me miss homecooked meals more. Dinner can be anything. We've had spaghetti, pizza, hotdogs, soup, chicken, steak and fish. There's always a dessert like hostess cupcakes or chocolate twinkies with strawberry filling. They also have cookies from the 18th century and these sponge cake things that taste good but the texture is throw-up and slime mixed together. Cereal is easily the go-to food though cuz it's always there and it tastes decent.

This isn't another bullet point, but I just got to say that I've never been this tired in my entire life. I'm not just talking physically tired, which I still very much am, but I'm also super mentally tired. By the end of the night, I can't memorize any more words. I fall asleep so fast cuz it's the first time all day that I don't have to try and think about something. Sometimes I'll accidently fall asleep during studying time, but that's only happened twice. But those were definitely my best two days here.

Hope your week was as good as mine!
